From the moment he arrived, it was clear that his needs would be different. His care was not something that could be solved with a single treatment or a short recovery period. It required time, patience, and a willingness to learn alongside him. Each day was built around therapy, observation, and small, intentional adjustments to help him stay comfortable and supported.

Caring for Fanta meant slowing down and paying attention in a deeper way. It meant meeting him exactly where he was and showing up for him again and again.

He worked through challenges most animals never face. He adapted. He tried again. He kept going. That kind of strength is something we see again and again in special needs animals. They do not give up on themselves, even when the path is difficult.

He lived fully within the life he had, trusting us to walk alongside him through every challenge. He reminded us that dignity, comfort, and love are just as important as outcomes, and that some of the most meaningful care happens in the quiet, unseen moments.
His loss was sudden and deeply felt. The space he filled cannot be replaced. But what he left behind is a lasting shift in how we approach the animals who need us most.
Fanta’s Fighter Fund was created in his honor to support special needs animals requiring long term, ongoing care. While our Sanctuary Program provides a safe, loving home for animals who will remain with us, many of those residents are stable in their day to day needs and require only routine care, monitoring, or supplemental support.
This fund is different.
Fanta’s Fighter Fund exists for the animals whose care is more intensive and ongoing. The ones who need daily hands on support, physical therapy, specialized feeding, frequent veterinary oversight, and often care from multiple specialists. These are the animals who, like Fanta, show up every day with quiet determination and an incredible will to keep going.
Because of Fanta, we are reminded that saying yes is only the beginning. True care continues in the days, weeks, and months that follow. It requires presence, adaptability, and the willingness to walk alongside an animal for as long as they need.
This fund ensures that we can continue to say yes to animals like him. Not just in the moment they are rescued, but for everything that comes after.
